Woodbridge Sixth Form is a diverse community of students from many different cultures and backgrounds, learning and working together in an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect.

We have an ethos that encourages our students to aspire beyond their own expectations of what is possible. The Sixth Form is a stepping stone to employment or higher education and we try to engender an ethos of respect and responsibility. Sixth Formers are however part of the whole school community and as such we expect them to support staff and act as role models at all times.

We have a dress code which requires students to wear what is appropriate for a working environment. We see our Sixth Formers as ambassadors for Woodbridge at all times, both in and out of school. All Sixth form students are expected to be involved in the life of the school and take on a range of responsibilities.

Our Sixth Form Ambassadors Committee work alongside teachers in improving different aspects of the Sixth Form and wider school, mentor younger students and organise super-curricular activities. They also represent the school and various functions and occasions.

Student attendance will be monitored as follows:

Lessons

The expectation is that all students maintain at least 95% attendance to their lessons. This will be monitored by their subject teachers in the first instance and any concerns may be picked up by the Sixth Form Pastoral Team.

Assemblies

Assemblies take place every Tuesday morning for either Year 12 or Year 13. Attendance is compulsory and will be monitored. Assemblies form an integral part of our PHSE programme and it is also one of the few times we can gather as a whole year group.

Enrichment

Our Enrichment programme takes place once a fortnight. We often use this time to invite external speakers to talk to our students on a range of topical issues. However, we also may use this time to engage student to give back to the school and the wider community through various volunteering activitie.

Sixth Form students have up to 12 Independent Study (PPR) sessions on their timetable every fortnight. Timetabled PPR in the Sixth Form is a session, which the student can use to complete home learning, revision and additional reading. We work with students from the beginning of Year 12 to equip them with the skills to self-direct their own learning during this time. All PPR sessions take place in our two study rooms. Each has a full set of PC’s, study resources and are both supervised.

Our Character Programme is delivered through our registration sessions, which take place Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays between 8.40 – 9.00am. Attendance to registration is compulsory and forms an integral part of how we record and monitor a students’ attendance. Each day has a theme which we follow. Please see below:

Registration activities include, videos and discussions, looms for members of the sixth form team, or quick activities.

The academic progress of all students is our priority. We are committed to ensuring that we review students’ progress regularly and provide feedback to both students and parents.

At the beginning of each year we use students’ GCSE performance to assess their potential at post 16. This will be in the form of an ALPS target grade. This grade is the minimum grade which students should be achieving at A Level. It therefore represents the minimum academic standard to which students should be working towards.

During the year, we will be assessing student progress at regular intervals and comparing it to their ALPS target grade. All students will receive a predicted grade for their current level of work. A predicted grade is the grade which staff predict students will achieve at the end of the course.

At Woodbridge High School Sixth Form we have intervention systems in place to target those students who may not be achieving their potential and meeting the minimum academic standards expected of them in one or more subjects.

The main forms of communication in the sixth form are as follows:

Email

All students and parents must ensure the school has an email address (which is regularly checked) on its database. Tutors and subject staff will be using this form of communication regularly.

Information Screens

There are three information screens in the Sixth Form area for students to view. These will be updated regularly to show key dates / deadlines and other important whole school information.

Notice boards

There are a number of notice boards in the Sixth Form area displaying a wide range of information for students.

The sixth form area provides two extensive private study rooms. Year 12 and 13 have their own designated room. The expectation is that students use these rooms for quiet and independent work.

In addition there is a sixth form common room for use during free time with a full café service throughout the day exclusively for Sixth Form use.

The enrichment programme is provided for all students. It is a timetabled lesson and compulsory for all students to attend.

The programme is designed to enhance the students’ curriculum by introducing students to a variety of experiences.
