KS3
In KS3 students develop knowledge, tactics and skills in a range of sporting related activities. As a department we look to build upon the fundamental movement skills developed in primary school. We do this through a range of invasion games, aesthetic activities and racket sports. Additionally, in the summer term we provide students with the chance to learn and play in striking and fielding activities as well as athletics. All KS3 students have two hours of PE a week.
KS4
In years 10 and 11 students engage in physical activity to help create lifelong healthy habits. Students are given the autonomy to pick and choose the sports/activities they take part in, through a pathways system that they will select at the end of year 9 and year 10. Staff provide guidance and structure to these lessons while allowing students the opportunity to independently lead, officiate and manage their activity.
At Woodbridge, we offer a range of examination courses in Physical Education to suit our wide variety of students.
GCSE
The course explores a range of areas including how exercise affects the body, participation in sport, healthy active lifestyles and analysis of performance.
Students sit two exams, write one piece of coursework and are assessed in 3 sporting activities.
Cambridge National
The Cambridge National in Sport and Physical Activity qualification provides students with the opportunity to develop knowledge, understanding and skills of the essentials of sport. There is a blend of coursework and exam assessment offering students the chance to demonstrate a variety of learned skills.
KS5
At Key Stage 5 we offer two options in PE. The Cambridge Technical in Sport and Physical Activity and the traditional PE A Level (AS and A2).
A-Level
A level PE gives our students the chance to study the subject in depth. The course provides opportunities to understand and learn about the socio-cultural and scientific elements of sport. A Level PE links well with, Psychology, Biology and Sociology.
Cambridge Technical in Sport and Physical Activity
We offer single, double and triple Cambridge Technical qualifications in Sport and Physical Activity. Students study a range of units ranging from anatomy and physiology to business and sport. Some units are coursework based, others examined.
